About ALIVE Wellness Centre

Empowering Lives, Rebuilding Communities

ALIVE Wellness Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing holistic support for knife crime survivors and families. We offer a range of services including counselling, physical activities, and community building initiatives to promote healing and well-being.

Who I am

I am Laura the very proud Director of ALIVE Wellness Centre.

I hold a Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, specialising in supporting survivors of trauma. After my son was mugged at knifepoint, and witnessing first-hand the profound impact this trauma had on him and our family, I felt compelled to extend my work to those affected by similar experiences. This personal journey has deepened my passion for empowering individuals and families navigating the aftermath of trauma.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master's in Psychology to gain further insight into how the brain processes trauma and to better support survivors and families of knife crime and youth violence. This advanced knowledge allows me to provide more comprehensive care to those in need.

In addition to my psychological expertise, I am a qualified Personal Trainer with over 15 years of experience. Throughout my career, I have helped countless individuals rebuild their confidence and mental resilience through strength training. Physical empowerment, in my experience, can be a crucial part of the recovery process, as it was for me. At my lowest point, strength training played a pivotal role in my own mental health recovery, giving me a renewed mindset and the strength to keep going.
One of my proudest moments was receiving a handmade pencil case from a survivor I worked with. Embroidered with a butterfly, it came with the words, "You have given me my wings to fly." This gift was a powerful reminder of the impact this work can have. As someone who uses colors and creative expression in therapy, it was incredibly meaningful and affirmed my commitment to helping others reclaim their lives after trauma.

I am dedicated to helping as many survivors of knife crime and youth violence as possible in the context of ALIVE Wellness Centre. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have been affected by this type of violence, offering them the resources and tools they need to heal and move forward in their lives. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for those who have been impacted by knife crime.

"Police recorded that knife-enabled crime in the year ending March 2024, increased by 4% (50,510 offences) compared with year ending March 2023 (48,409 offences) in England and Wales. A notable increase was seen in the number of robberies involving a knife or sharp instrument (up 13% compared with the previous year)".

"The Office for National Statistics (ONS, 2024) have stated there were 5, 268 offences in the force area of the West Midlands between April 2023 and March 2024, giving a rate of 178 per 100,000 of the population. These figures were higher than the London Metropolitan Police Force’s who recorded 4,961 offences with a rate of 169 per 100,000 (BBC, 2024)".

At ALIVE Wellness Centre, we’re here to support young people dealing with the impact of crime, especially during times when things are getting worse. We’re dedicated to helping survivors feel stronger and find the support they need to get through tough times.
